Scope and our role

This Privacy Policy explains how Southern California School of Interpretation, through SCSI Testing and its SABIO platform ("SCSI," "SABIO," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you visit our website, create an account, take an assessment, receive results, or otherwise use our services.

SABIO supports interpreter, translator, and bilingual-professional assessments. If an employer, school, credentialing body, government entity, or other organization sponsors or administers your assessment, that organization may determine why your information is processed and which results it receives. In those circumstances, SCSI may process information for that organization under its instructions. Contact the sponsoring organization about its independent privacy practices and employment, educational, or credentialing decisions.

Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use SABIO.

We do not ask you to provide information unrelated to an assessment. However, audio, written responses, and other assessment content could reveal information you choose to include. Please do not submit sensitive personal information unless it is required for the assessment.

Where information comes from

We may receive personal information:

• directly from you when you register, communicate, or take an assessment;
• from a sponsoring organization that creates your access, identifies an assessment, or requests results;
• automatically from your browser, device, cookies, local storage, logs, and related technologies; and
• from service providers that support hosting, security, communications, and platform operations.

How we use information

We use personal information as reasonably necessary to:

• provide accounts, assessments, scoring, feedback, reports, and certificates;
• authenticate users and maintain assessment and account security;
• deliver results to you and authorized sponsoring organizations;
• respond to requests and provide administrative and technical support;
• monitor quality, troubleshoot, audit, validate, research, and improve our services and assessment methods;
• detect fraud, cheating, abuse, security incidents, and policy violations;
• enforce agreements and protect our rights, users, and services;
• comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests; and
• create aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify an individual.

Where a legal basis is required, we rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, compliance with law, or another basis available under applicable law. If we rely on consent, you may withdraw it where permitted.

AI-assisted scoring and automated processing

SABIO uses automated systems, including artificial intelligence, to analyze assessment responses and generate scores, proficiency indicators, feedback, and integrity signals. Inputs may include written responses, audio, response timing, assessment criteria, and other information associated with the session.

Automated results can be imperfect and may not reflect every relevant circumstance. SABIO provides assessment information; SCSI does not make an employer's hiring, promotion, termination, compensation, licensing, admissions, or similar high-impact decision. Sponsoring organizations are responsible for providing required notices, evaluating whether human review or an accommodation is appropriate, and complying with laws that apply to their decisions.

Where required by law or available through the sponsoring organization, you may request information about a result, correction of inaccurate personal information, or human review. Contact the sponsoring organization first for a decision it made; contact SCSI for questions about SABIO processing.

When we disclose information

We may disclose personal information to:

• Sponsoring organizations. Organizations that authorize, purchase, administer, or evaluate an assessment may receive account details, progress, responses, scores, feedback, integrity information, reports, and certificates consistent with their role.
• Service providers. Vendors may process information for hosting, infrastructure, security, communications, support, and related business operations under contractual restrictions.
• Professional advisers and authorities. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary for legal advice, audits, compliance, legal process, safety, fraud prevention, or protection of rights.
• Business transactions. Information may be transferred in a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of a business, subject to appropriate protections.

We do not sell personal information for money. We also do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law.

Cookies, local storage, and third-party features

SABIO uses cookies, browser storage, and similar technologies that are needed to authenticate users, maintain sessions, remember workflow state, protect the service, and support core functionality. You can adjust browser controls, but blocking required technologies may prevent parts of SABIO from working.

Our public website may contain links to third-party sites or embedded content, including Vimeo video. When you interact with third-party content, the provider may receive device, network, and usage information under its own privacy terms. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies on SABIO.

Retention and security

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including account administration, assessment delivery, result verification, customer requirements, dispute resolution, security, audits, and legal compliance. Retention periods vary by information type, contractual instructions, legal obligations, and whether an account or assessment remains active.

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including access controls and protections for information in transit and at rest where appropriate. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your credentials and notify us promptly of suspected unauthorized account activity.

We may use aggregated or de-identified information for analytics, benchmarking, research, validation, and service improvement. We maintain de-identified information in de-identified form and do not attempt to reidentify it except as permitted by law to test our de-identification processes.

Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent; to opt out of certain uses; and to appeal a denied request.

We may verify your identity and authority before acting. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted, but we may require proof of authorization and identity.

We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. If a sponsoring organization controls the relevant information, we may direct your request to that organization or ask you to contact it directly.

California privacy disclosures

California residents may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of personal information; to opt out of sale or sharing; to limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; to use an authorized agent; and to receive equal service when exercising these rights, subject to applicable exceptions.

During the preceding 12 months, we may have collected the categories below for the business and commercial purposes described in this Policy and disclosed them to the recipient categories described in "When we disclose information."

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a right to limit under California law. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no need to submit an opt-out request for those practices at this time.

International users and children

International access

SCSI is based in the United States. If you access SABIO from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers.

Children

SABIO is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13 without legally sufficient authorization. Assessment eligibility may be further limited by these Terms, a sponsoring organization, or applicable law. If you believe a child provided information improperly, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

Policy updates and contact

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our services, practices, or law. The effective date above shows when the current version took effect. If a change materially affects how we use information, we will provide additional notice when required.
